Head Teacher’s Blog 4.9.19-13.9.19

Hi Everyone,

WELL DONE to everyone for a FANTASTIC start to the new academic year especially our Reception children who have been AMAZING and even joined us for Awards Assembly on Friday!

It is GREAT to be back, to see all the children and be back together as our school family. I hope you all had a lovely summer but I am sure we are all glad to get back into routine!

We welcomed Miss Shaw as our new teacher and Mrs Kay as our new Teaching Assistant as well. We try to live our Mission Statement tag line ‘A unique family in faith, love and learning’ every day and I am always reminded when we start a new school year that it is a privilege to be with the children on their learning journey and to work with such a dedicated staff.  Sincere thanks to you as parents for your support and continued partnership, it all makes a difference!

The children are all settling now into their new classes and I hope you can join us for the ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings over these first few weeks. ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings are an opportunity to gain a further insight into the routines and expectations of your child’s new class. Each class teacher will present a power point outlining routines, timetable information and expectations. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about those things. All the teachers will put their power point presentations on the school website afterwards for your reference and information particularly if you cannot attend the meeting.

Mrs Spencer had her meeting on Friday 13th with new Reception parents and the rest of the meetings are scheduled as follows:

Monday 16.9.19: Class 1, Class 2 and Class 6

Tuesday 17.9.19: Class 3 and Class 4

Wednesday 18.9.19: Class 5

PSA News

Sincere thanks to PSA members who ran the PSA Coffee Morning for new and existing parents on Friday 6th September. It was lovely to welcome new parents and catch up with familiar faces!

The PSA is a vital support to our school and through fund raising has made a significant difference over the years to enhance the provision for all the children, for example funding a theatre company to perform pantomimes in schools for KS1 and KS2.

It is a great way to get involved and any time or help you can give is greatly appreciated. We are always looking for new members so please come along to the next meeting, all are welcome!

The first meeting of the year will take place in September so watch out for the date and come along!

Sporting News

Our Y5 and Y6 Cross Country team got off to a flying start on Thursday 12th – WELL DONE TEAM GREAT RESULTS!

We look forward to another fantastic season from our Cross Country Team!

Sacred Heart Alliance Teaching School

This week we welcomed two teaching students from the Sacred Heart Alliance. Sacred Heart RC Primary school, Westhoughton is a teaching school and part of that is to provide teacher training. They are partnered with Cumbria University to deliver this training and we are a partner school. We are delighted that this year we will have two ‘home’ students who will be with us for three days a week (Wednesday-Friday) unless they are on placement in another school. We will also have students on placement during the year.

This is an important part of our partnership with the Alliance and to support the training of future teachers. It is an enrichment to our school and an opportunity for us to pass our good practice. Your child may come home and mention the students and this half term they are placed in Class 4 and Class 5.

STARS OF THE WEEK

Each week every class teacher chooses their ‘Stars of the Week’ for great work, learning attitude, behaviour and attitude to others. We celebrate that in our Awards Assembly every Friday afternoon. We also celebrate ‘Dojo’ winners from Reception class and raffle ticket winners from Class 1-Class 6. These are all part of our reward system. The children can bring their awards and achievements from outside school to celebrate in that assembly too – it is always wonderful to hear and share their achievements!

Reminders for next week

  • Mon. – Wed.: ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings

We have reflected and talked about our school family in assembly and the foundations that we build it on. The children had brilliant answers that reflected how we try to live our daily lives in school. It has been lovely to see all the children helping the new Reception children, the kindness shown and how much they want them to feel settled. Out Year 6 House Captains have stepped up to their new roles and we are in the middle of appointing new Year 5 Pupil Chaplains to join our Y6 team so our unique family continues to grow in faith, love and learning.

We look forward to another GREAT week!

God bless

Mrs Doodson
