Head Teacher’s Blog 4.2.19-8.2.19

Hi Everyone,

Another good week and the children have worked so hard as it has been assessments this week – WELL DONE EVERYONE!

We started the week with the ‘Book Bus’ as a  joint project with Beaumont school on Monday. This was a new venture for us and an opportunity for parents and children to look at books and buy them if they wished. In the past we have had ‘Book Fairs’ but as always it is an opportunity not an expectation that everyone buys books, it is to promote the love of reading.

Year 6 had a great visit to ‘Crucial Crew’ on Thursday morning. This trip always takes place in Year 6 and is part of the preparation work for moving on to high school. It is delivered by the emergency services and focuses on personal safety so it is age appropriate and the children always enjoy it. WELL DONE YEAR 6 !

Archie and Libby our Road Safety Ambassadors announced the winners of the KS1 road safety competition in our Awards assembly yesterday. WELL DONE to Elliott/Reception, David/Year 1 and Isabel/Year 2 who were our lucky winners! The competitions continue next week with the Y3/Y4 quiz on Monday and the Y5/Y6 quiz on Wednesday – come and test your road safety knowledge KS2!

WELL DONE to our girls football team who played their first match against Sacred Heart on Tuesday. It wasn’t a victory but a great effort from the girls and great team spirit!

The week ended with our half termly ‘Open Session’ – sincere thanks to all parents, grandparents and family members who came to look at their child’s topic work. It is always lovely to welcome you all and to see the excitement of the children as they share their work – FANTASTIC! THANK-YOU!

The PSA ‘Race Night’ last night was the icing on the cake – a SUPER night! Many thanks to the hardworking PSA members and volunteers who made it such a great event. It was very well attended, great atmosphere, lots of lucky winners and the children who came were fantastic too! Many thanks to all of you who sponsored races and bought horses, it all helps to make this a successful night. I know the PSA will be letting you know next week how much was raised.

In assembly this week we shared the story of the presentation of Jesus by his parents in the temple and the encounter with Simeon and Anna. We reflected on our own baptisms and being part of God’s family. We talked about Jesus being the light of the world and how we can share that light with each other by loving one another. We talked about how small gestures can make a big difference such as a smile or opening a door for someone. The children are really good at this – keep it up! We remind the children about how their good manners are highly valued and make such a difference to everyone. Thanks to you as parents who embed this at home we can continue to promote it in school, visitors always comment on how polite the children are – GREAT WORK!

I wish you all an enjoyable weekend and thanks again to all those who supported the PSA Race Night! Great to see so many families enjoying the evening together!

God bless

Mrs Doodson
