Head Teacher’s Blog 28.1.19-1.2.19

Hi Everyone,

Another good week everyone despite the weather! Thank-you for supporting us on Wednesday when the weather was challenging. The children certainly enjoyed playing in the snow! The children are working hard and it is great to see their books and super work when I visit classes during the week.

We had a FANTASTIC Maths Day on Tuesday – WELL DONE EVERYONE! Every class had the opportunity to work with Liam from ‘The Problem Solving’ company in the hall doing a workshop with giant maths equipment. Each class had different maths based activities going on all day and lots of fun! The purpose of the day was to promote problem solving and deepen our maths knowledge and skills. A GREAT day!

Unfortunately the Reception and KS1 Mass had to be cancelled on Wednesday due to the weather, we will be rearranging Mass as soon as possible with Fr Morrough so we will let you know!

Please don’t forget the PSA ‘RACE NIGHT’ next Friday 8th February. This is fun and great family night – please read the posters displayed round school for further information and come and join us! We are also looking for sponsors for races and any parent volunteers for the evening – please call into the main office for further details!

Our Road Safety competitions for this term are underway with a road safety maze sheet for KS1 and road safety quizzes taking place for KS2 week beginning 11th February. Thanks to Archie, Libby and Miss Settle who have organised the competitions.

We had an exciting KS2 times tables competition this week and we were really impressed with everyone – WELL DONE! The finalists and winners were presented with certificates and prizes in assembly today. FANTASTIC! Keep up the great work on those times tables everyone!

In assembly this week we talked about our Mission Statement and how we can ‘reach out to others’. The JDRF ‘Wear you Onesie’ day last week was a GREAT success and raised £250 for JDRF that supports young people and their families with type 1 diabetes. We regularly raise money for different charities throughout the year and after half term we will be doing our annual St Joseph’s Penny fund raising for CARITAS that supports many charities and projects across the Salford Diocese. We also talked about how the simplest thing can be reaching out to others such as a word of kindness, a smile, a helping hand or sharing. One child shared how she had had her hair cut and donated her hair to the ‘Little Princess’ charity that make wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy – FANTASTIC!

We look forward to another great week! I hope you all have a lovely, enjoyable and relaxing weekend.

God bless

Mrs Doodson
