Head Teacher’s Blog 1.4.19-5.4.19 and end of this half term

Hi Everyone,

A GREAT half term everyone – WELL DONE ! This week has been very busy and BRILLIANT! Every spring term we are asked by our Bishop, Bishop John to raise money for CARITAS a charity that supports families in need, the homeless and vulnerable, the elderly and a range of community based projects in our Diocese. This has always been traditionally called St Joseph’s Penny and the famous penny boxes! All Catholic schools in the Salford Diocese are asked to raise money this term and in Monday’s assembly I shared a special power point from Bishop John to explain to the children how the money raised helps so many people in need. A MASSIVE THANK-YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY AND SUPPORT AS WE HAVE RAISED AN AMAZING £1055 in 3 days!

We ask each class to do a fund raising event and have found the most successful is the Reception and KS1 Cake Sale, Y3 and Y4 Chocolate Tombola and then Y5 and Y6 plan and organise their own fund raising stalls and games for ‘Enterprise Afternoon’. In this way every child has taken part and can enjoy all the events. Sincere thanks to you as none of these events would be as successful without your vital support and generosity. The children thoroughly enjoyed the events over the three days and we all agreed that we have certainly ‘reached out to others’ this Lent!

The School Council wanted to run the Easter Cupcake and Easter Bonnet competitions and they have been wonderfully supported this week too! Thank-you again for your support – it was great to see the children parading round the hall in their bonnets! Please look on our Facebook page for some fabulous photos!

Mrs Tyrer (our School Catering Manager) and I judged the Easter Cupcake competition and it was tough! The School Council judged the Easter Bonnet competition also very tough!

Many thanks to all parents, grandparents and family members who joined us for our Holy Week Service on Wednesday. I hope you found it reflective as we approach Holy Week and the final steps of our Lenten journey together. The children were FANTASTIC and we all left the hall in silence as part of our reflection.

We had House Afternoon on Tuesday and all the children thoroughly enjoyed it! The theme of the afternoon was Easter and all the children watched an animated children’s version of the Easter Story and decorated a cross. We had excellent House point scores from all the leaders – a SUPER afternoon!
